Campaigners fighting to save the main Beverley Post Office were delighted by the public response this Saturday to a petition opposing the closure of the town’s post office.  Beverlonians in the town’s Toll Gavel queued as hundreds signed up.

Communications Worker Union members joined forces with the town’s Labour Party to raise awareness of the issue and collect petition signatures.    The union which represents PostOffice workers are opposed to plans to transfer services from the Crown owned site to the nearby W H Smith.

Speaking today, Beverley Labour’s George McManus said, ‘Time after time people told us that they value the service currently on offer, that the proposed site will hinder disabled access and thatthe workers deserve better.

The message to government is clear. This is their decision.  It’s their property.

Don’t sacrifice long term benefit for short term gain.
