Letter from one of our members:

It is a sad reflection on our society that charities such as Womens Aid, Refuge and NSPCC need to exist.
Since the lock down began the number of women murdered by abusive partners has recently increased from 2 to 5 per week. Whilst the police have responded to the greatly increased number of reported incidents of domestic violence, we all know that they will only be able to reach a minority of cases.
On top of this, as you know, thousands of children suffer cruelty, abuse and severe neglect. Many cases slip through the net. There is an even greater chance of this happening whilst we are in lock down.

I’m proud that our party have ensured that the plight of vulnerable women and children has featured in the media and that Labour has pressed the government on this issue. It is good news that the government has announced financial support in relation to victims of domestic abuse and people trafficking. Although, l am uncertain how quickly they will act and what form this support will take. The initiative with Boots pharmacy also sounds good for those who can reach a branch.
If you know of anyone in such a relationship the following organisations may be able to give help and advice
WWW.NSPCC.ORG.UK
Donations to any of these would be gratefully received.

Yours fraternally,
Paul
