The energy bills are the fault of Labour, sas Graham Stuart
The energy bills are the fault of Labour, sas Graham Stuart

The dictionary definition of the word ‘shirk’ is:

“to avoid work, duties, or responsibilities, especially if they are difficult or unpleasant”

Why am I telling you this? Well, according to a recent article in the Guardian, Graham Stuart thinks the Conservative party aren’t to blame for the current crisis of soaring energy bills. He believes the his party are doing “transformational” work. So, how that they possibly be to blame?

Well, it’s important to remember how long the Conservatives have been in power.

They haven’t just been here since 2019. Not 2017 or 2015 either. They’ve been in government since 2010.

It’s now 2023. It’s not far off being a 13 year run. That’s enough time for a child to be born and to go all the way through to year 9 of secondary school.

If you’re in power for that amount of time, it’s you that should be taking responsibility for what’s happened.

Kerry McCarthy was right when she said:

“It was the Conservatives who crashed the market for onshore wind, costing British families £150 in higher bills. It was the Conservatives who gutted energy efficiency programmes, to the extent that installation rates are 20 times lower than under the last Conservative government. And it was Conservatives whose own net zero strategy is so poor that the UK’s own courts deemed it unlawful.”

Yes, that’s right – unlawful. This article also tells us that the government kept both parliament and the public in the dark about missing a key target.

Let’s be honest. Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our generation. The changes we make today have the potential to impact countless generations to come. However, the Conservatives don’ have the willpower to do what’s necessary. Plus, when they do fail, they aren’t courageous enough to take the blame.

Graham Stuart is a perfect example of what we have in the current government. A slavish support for a failed regime and an inability to take responsibility.

Enough is enough
