A fantastic view of part of the East Riding of Yorkshire coast

For many years, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been under the control of the Tories. In the 2019 local elections they decreased their number of seats, but still won 49 out of 67. As of 26 August 2022 there are 42 Conservatives and 13 Liberal Democrats.

Polling day is a fantastic opportunity to see the political makeup of the council change for the better.

Labour offers hope for the region. It offers an end to stagnation, weakness and complacency. It gives you the prospect of genuine progress. Voting Labour would mean an end to the scandals. It would mean respect given to the standards in public life (selflessness, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership).

Our manifesto

It has a wide range of topics and covers the issues that matter. For example:

  • Community consultation involved in budget making
  • New build houses will be carbon neutral
  • More electric vehicle charging points in car parks
  • A functioning transport policy
  • Proper funding to improve the infrastructure and energy efficiency of local schools
  • New housing to reflect community need as well as addressing infrastructure, doctors, transport and the environment
  • Proper support to local food banks
  • A focus on access to mental health services
  • Effective and affordable care to elderly residents
  • Working with Women’s Aid to ensure there is sufficient refuges

The full version of our manifesto with the complete set of promises and policies can be found here.

We have worked incredibly hard and will continue to do so if elected. We genuinely care about the residents.

What about the others?

The Tories have become complacent and take your votes for granted. A recent report showed senior council officers have the power instead of them. The planning committee does not stand up to developers. In Minster & Woodmansey they have a history of councillors who created nationally reported scandals and brought the council into disrepute (Dominic Peacock and Paul Nickerson). South West Holderness councillors have also broken electoral rules and ignored warnings.

The Liberal Democrats are not much better. No scrutiny to the Conservatives and they have resorted to petty insults throughout this campaign instead of promoting candidates and policies. When they have power, they fail. At Beverley Town Council they ignored auditor warnings repeatedly and spent a large amount of public money on a building without doing a survey first. A survey done since then showed the building needs significant additional investment.

For change for the better, vote Labour.
